Always the Season to See Good

Last December at The Well we sent out a popular newsletter, “A Season to Simplify.” One of the keys: Use social media less, as nutritionist and writer Alison Massey reported. She noted that Lush cosmetics had written on its Instagram account, “Be somewhere else.” Wise advice still.

Off social media, I’ve been in reflection mode while playing familiar Christmas tunes on the piano, like “The First Noel,” “The Christmas Waltz,” “Joy to the World,” and “Deck the Halls.”

This week, I attended a virtual journaling session with Natalie Cramer, creativity coach of Cramer Creations. She invited the small gathering to reflect on some important life questions, including:

  • What are you grateful for?

  • What are you proud of from 2022?

  • What do you want to let go of from 2022?

  • What do you want to create or welcome in, in 2023?

In doing this exercise, I took note of the highlights and lowlights of my year: forming enduring habits, strengthening my faith, being part of a growing professional community, using my voice more effectively, helping friends connect, grappling with loss and change. I’m grateful to Natalie for providing a space to journal and share. I learned a lot from participants’ reflections.

In 2023, may we all seize opportunities to see good, to do good, to share good — on and offline.
