Building a Vision Board

Creativity coach Natalie Cramer sent me an evite to a vision board session as the calendar flipped to 2023. Then, the vision board concept surfaced on the Friends & Fiction web show last Wednesday. Actress, screenwriter, and producer Mindy Kaling was on author Sonali Dev’s vision board, and Dev’s The Vibrant Years was the first novel published by Mindy’s Book Studio in December 2022. Sonali described the power of setting an intention, putting forth the effort, and achieving her publishing goal!

Inspired, I decided to craft a board for the first time. To get started, I bought some construction paper, colored pencils, and glue sticks, then cut up some old magazines. Real Simple and The Penn Stater are two that I save throughout the year because of all the rich content I find there. These old issues gave me a slew of new ideas!

My finished board turned into a vision/mood combo. It’s not surprising because my daily thinking patterns tend to influence what and how much I can accomplish. For a background, I chose magenta, Panetone’s color of the year. As I worked, I reflected on and pasted items expressing warm feelings, positive interests, and worthy goals. I enjoyed this process because I was naturally drawn to cut and paste words and images that lift up my thought — and keep me focused on realizing big dreams.
