In the Middle of the Night: A Halloween Poem

Writer’s note: I wrote this poem during my school days and am sharing it here to celebrate Halloween.

In the middle of the night,

The children went to a haunted house to explore.

But they got locked inside the door.

They screamed and yelled and called for help,

But no one could hear a sound outside the door anymore.

In the middle of the night,

What did the children see inside?

That made them want to run and hide.

They saw ghosts and goblins in the closet,

Witches flying through the air,

And skeletons dancing at the foot of the stair.

In the middle of the night,

What a horrible spooky sight,

Filled the children with wonder and fight.

Then the children switched on the light.

And it made every spirit in the house go shrieking at the blinding sight.

In the middle of the night,

The spirits were having a very serious fight,

About who switched on the light.

The ghosts and goblins were flying,

And the witches felt like dying,

Dying on the kitchen floor.

When the children screamed and yelled, “We did!”

The spirits shrieked, “Bad night!”

And disappeared out of the children’s sight.

In the middle of the night,

The children opened the door to the haunted house really wide,

And ran away outside.
